trans torah commentary

this is a baby idea. well, it’s been brewing for a while, as i’ve wondered “is this even something?” that moment of anxiety, that slight hesitation right before we commit to trying, to manifesting, to fucking up, to maybe trying again.

anyways. if you made it here, you’ve probably seen: i’m searching for trans jews who want to make art / write about Torah. if this is you, hi! welcome! i’m so glad you’re here!

as mentioned, this idea is a baby. she’s still taking shape. here’s the main concept: what if we had a full Torah cycle of commentary from trans Jews? this commentary could be traditional d’varim, collages, blackout poems, song lyrics.

ultimately, i want to print these commentaries in a zine or collection of zines. i want to hold our words in my hands. i want to open your commentary alongside my weekly Torah reading.

now, there are still many details to iron out (who would comment on what Torah portions? would contributors get compensated? could folks write commentary for more than one parsha? could many people write commentary for the same parsha?) but! if this initial idea has you curious, fill out this form & i will be in touch no later than September 15th with a more formal invitation to participate.
