flowers for all occasions

playing music in front of people makes me nervous, but sometimes i do it anyways. here’s some things i performed @ flowers for all occassions:

fake rainbows

fake rainbows are everywhere, and we ask how to reclaim them? how do we reclaim something that was always ours?—a promise made to each of us. a promise of boundaries, of never going too far again. so let me stretch this rainbow, have it be the boundary that shapes my edges. the promise of what’s to come; the promise of life. a flood in all the right ways.

wash over

we talk about being too much, having learned smallness.

and what can i do, and what can i say,

to remember there’s more space?

trust in the ocean, i could never control her.

let what’s meant to take root and leave the rest to change.

wash over, wash over

take cover, let it wash over

earth affirming

if the moon told you to fill up,

could you let joy overflow,

hold close the wonder of survival,

and let that be enough?

you only needed a sign.

you only needed someone to say “it’s ok,”

but you’ve gotta look elsewhere.

you’ve gotta look everywhere sometimes.

see, the ocean let’s you float,

cradling you for safe keeping.

do you hear what she’s whispering?

she’s got you; let go.

you only needed a sign.

you only needed someone to say “it’s ok,”

but you’ve gotta look elsewhere.

you’ve gotta look everywhere sometimes.

and the stars could say it’s alright,

but would you believe them?

their siblings crushed in your bones

light up as you go.

gazelles and wild does

arm under my head, right hand embrace me

until the day breathes and the shadows flee.

spread me out among apricots.

do not awaken love.

each night i seek them, never to be found.

let me get up, run through the city now.

who is that coming up from wilderness?

do not awaken love, til they’re ready.

arise my friend, my beautiful one. come now.

let my love come to the garden, and

taste the choicest fruit.
